There Are Real Life Unicorns in Croatia!

See? Two of them, right there!

Oh ho ho. I'm pretty funny. I hope I got you all with my hilarious title. There are a lot of goats here though. Really big goats - and some of the them have quite large horns on their heads and they just wander around the streets casually. I tried to get some pictures of them, but there was this big alpha-male goat who was walking towards me more quickly than I felt comfortable with, so I jumped on my bike and rode madly away, imagining the whole way that it was chasing me (are goats even that dangerous? I don't know. I didn't want to stick around to find out.)

And here are some photos taken just a short time afterwards, on an Istrian marina. Sunset in Europe lasts for about 3 hours - bizarre for me, because in Sydney the sun sets extremely quickly! I love Croatia more than I can even describe. The night ended with cocktails at what is possibly the coolest bar I have ever been to, sitting on cushions on rocks right next to the crystal-clear sea water.

It's pretty mad to think that I only learnt last year why the sky is blue (light of the entire visible spectrum - white light - comes to us from the sun, and the atmosphere of Earth scatters the blue light - the light with the shortest wavelengths - more than the other colours. And that's why the whole sky appears blue).

But I never even questioned why the sky turns orange or red at sunset.
Thanks to this fantastic video by "It's Okay to be Smart", I now know why sunsets are so pretty!

Have a great day,

p.s. I'm having an ad sale to help fund a slightly expensive hair-style change that I'll be getting in the next month ;) If you'd like a Large Ad Spot for August to promote your store or blog, use the promo code AUGUSTADSALE at the checkout for $5 off all Large Ad spaces. Back to School!

It's back to uni time for me! But don't worry, I'll still be making lots of time to blog! As well as moving closer to uni (*fingers crossed*), I'm going to be having a pretty busy year!
I kept it simple with this outfit, wearing my brand new clear rainboots which I am absolutely in love with! These shoes took three months to arrive, which was the only downside - because they're very well made for the price, and the sender included a whole rainbow's worth of other shoelaces so I can mix and match them. I can't stop staring at my feet when I have these on, it's weird being able to see inside your boots! The awesome thing about these shoes is that you can just change your socks and BAM you've got a new pair of boots! I got mine from Alibaba but you can also find them on Ebay (search for "clear rainboots").

backpack - Asos (sadly no longer in stock)
necklace - Claire's
hat - c/o Wholesale

I also have to highly recommend this dress gifted to me from Rire Boutique! The shape of the dress is super dooper flattering, plus the nautical stripes are very summery and sailor-esque, and I've been complimented on it whenever I wear it.

That's it from me today. I hope you're all doing great!

Day Two / Japanese Science & Internet Umbrellas

Ohayou! This is the outfit I wore yesterday for exploring some more of beautiful Tokyo! If you're ever going to Japan, you must make sure to check out Kichijoji. I spent the afternoon wandering the gorgeous Sun Road shopping street (see photos below).

wearing
sweater - Harajuku (and I forgot the name of the store)
necklace - c/o Merrin & Gussy
coat - my mum's coat
tights - Ebay
socks - Vintage
bag - Rubi Shoes
skirt - Ice
shoes - Asos

I forgot to take photos of everything cool I saw yesterday, because I was too excited by it all... haha :) however here is a shot of one of my favourite chain stores in Japan - Momo by Wonder Rocket. (There's about 3 of these in Harajuku on Takeshita street alone. They have the cutest stuff.)

Oh and hey! I'm not going to forget my science posts either while I'm abroad! Here's a little Tokyo-themed science story.
My next few science posts are going to be Japan-themed, quite fittingly! The photo you see above (from this news story) is an "internet umbrella" called Pileus, which displays a Flickr stream and google maps underneath the canopy. It can even play Youtube videos. Created in 2007 by two Japanese graduate students at a research and design laboratory, it's a cute use of technology and science with the aim of "making rainy days more fun". While displaying social media and the like on one's umbrella will probably not catch on - and I can also imagine it would cause a lot of people to bump into each other - it is a step towards the world of augmented reality (which many science commentators have declared is going to take off in 2013). Augmented reality is the science of having the world around you "augmented" or "enhanced" with things that aren't actually there. An example of augmented reality is like being able to look at a restaurant through special glasses, or through your iphone camera, and having it tell you the number of people inside and if any of your friends from facebook are currently eating there (seriously, look up augmented reality, it's awesome). In fact, google have already begun developing augmented reality glasses.

I hope that you're all very, very well!
More from me soon,

I promised you guys I'd get some beach shots while I was on holidays. Shooting at "golden hour" on a beach with a flowy, over-the-top dress (and credit for the photographs goes to my boyfriend Luci) is something I have wanted to do for so long now. It's probably cliché but it's also really pretty, so who cares?
These beaches are amazing, and basically deserted, meaning we often have them all to ourselves. I am so lucky to be able to visit these beaches for a holiday, and when the sun sets, and the stars come out (spectacularly - due to there being very little light pollution) it feels pretty magical.
Hope you're all having a beautiful day,

I've got some brand new things in my shop, including these heart shaped collar clips! I also wanted to ask you guys - which colour heart clips would you guys most like to be made? The red ones are up in my store already, but maybe you guys want to see some other colours? In fact there's a poll in the sidebar which you can use to vote :) I'd really appreciate it!
I really like these red heart ones - you all know I'm obsessed with anything heart-printed or heart-shaped - so consequently I've been pairing them with every single outfit lately. And I have to admit that this outfit probably went a little over the top with heart print items - my clips, my shorts AND my sweater. Ah well. One can never wear too many hearts.

Astronomers recently took this picture (the one of the left) of the surface of Titan and have deduced that it is very likely a river. Titan is one of Saturn's moons and likely the most habitable body in our solar system after Earth, and the only other world we know of with stable liquid on its surface. The scientists don't think the river is water however, more likely liquid ethane or methane. Still, it's pretty exciting to imagine an alien world with a running river and possibly even oceans.
The image on the right is an artistic representation by Ron Miller of this river. Even though it's not a real photograph, I love these kinds of images almost more than the real thing - and they're so valuable to scientists in helping capture people's imaginations and create interest in the work that the scientists are doing.
Plus imagine how cool it would be to look up at the sky and see Saturn just hanging there.

I hope you're all having a wonderful day!

Cosmic Unicorns and the Scale of the Universe

Hey guys! I bought this ASOS bodysuit the other day as soon as I laid my eyes on it - basically as a unconscious knee-jerk response to the ON SALE signs and the fact that it's got unicorns on it - then had immediate regrets (immediate as in 1 hour later so it was too late to cancel the order) because it was a petite-sized item. I started stressing that it wouldn't fit me as I am quite a bit taller than the recommended height for petite clothes! LUCKILY, I must I have an oddly short torso or something, because it fit perfectly! I also needed to show off the whole print in all it's spectacular, cosmic unicorn glory:
And I just checked, but unfortunately they're all out of stock now :(

After attempting to make you all feel small and insignificant about your place within the universe yesterday, I figured why not do it again? 'Tis the season! This is an old favourite, that I'm sure some of you will really enjoy if you haven't come across it before: The Scale Of The Universe (2). I just spent about an hour clicking on all the different stars and planets that they use as comparisons and learning all about them. Also the minecraft world is bigger than Earth. Also apparently this site was made by two 14 year olds (!!). Go check it out - it encompasses the entire universe and makes you feel very very big and then very very small all at the same time.
